Re: OVERBLOW-BOOSTER MK2 - Special 20 Version
Thanks Triona. Like you I don't use overblows myself - mostly because I play half-valved harps, on which they are impossible anyway. Plus TBH I have always preferred the sound and flexibility of normal reed bending, in combination with altered tunings, for getting missing chromatic notes. That being...

Yes, you can of course just use a standard XB40 retuned to your preference. They can still be found on eBay etc. Paddy-Extended is the first octave of Paddy-Richter repeated in all octaves. I first recorded with it on the track 'Tom's Tune' in my 2004 album TRADISH: https://brendan-power.com/Tradish...

Hi Triona, Thanks for your typically in-depth enquiry regarding my 'PUFFNSAW' album with Janie Rothfield. I'm glad the music has inspired you to find out more about the harmonicas used; in particular, the modified XB-40s. They have no slider. I just removed the XB mouthpiece and coverplates and put ...

Two Original Tunings - Demo Video
Here's a short video explaining and demonstrating a couple of my best-known alternate tunings, PowerDraw and PowerBender: https://youtu.be/hoznOBsTyEc I'm using a couple of my own-brand harps here. These are decent models made by Easttop and Kongsheng; modestly priced to enable players curious to tr...

Re: Which MIDI Harmonica?
For quick plug and play with virtually no learning curve, the HM12 with its onboard sounds is best. Just run the audio lead out to your headphones or amp and you're playing instantly. As a pure MIDI controller for outside sounds (such as the great SWAM collection now on iPad), the DM48 is superior. ...

Re: Playing PowerBenders in different keys
Hi Jack, I'm glad you're enjoying PowerBender tuning :) Unfortunately the sheet music examples in the book can't be transposed. However: 1. Simply read the TAB under the notes score. It works for any key harp! 2. You can transpose the music tracks from the CD. Just save the tracks as MP3s and put th...

Re: MODULAR-REED HARMONICA - Released!
Thanks for your enthusiasm for the modular reed concept Dorothy! It's always encouraging to get feedback like that for an idea one has put a huge amount of time and effort into 🙂 Though I started with 10-hole harps, I see a lot of potential for using modular reeds to make many other kinds of harmoni...

Re: Harmonicas with Modular Reedplates
Thanks for your positive feedback and suggestions regarding the Modular-Reed harmonica, Dorothy. I'm glad you're loving yours! As far as keeping large numbers of spare reeds safe and well catalogued for easy retrieval goes, that's an interesting question! It was one that we had to solve ourselves, s...
