Altered tuning

Anything apart from the two mainstream default harmonicas (Solo-tuned fully-valved chromatic, and un-valved Richter 10-hole diatonic). Alternate tunings, different construction, new functionality, interesting old designs, wishful-thinking... whatever!

Altered tuning

Post by Studunk » Tue Apr 04, 2017 9:12 pm

Hi,
I recently acquired a harmonica in the key of A with altered blow and draw notes on hole 1. The layout is,
G C# E A
1 2 3 4
D E G# B

I think this gives me the chords of Em6 on the blow and E7 on the draw or
C#m7b5 on the blow and C9#5 on the draw.

My question is, Are my chords correct and/or what context would these chords be useful if the rest of the harp is conventional A? Thanks.
Regards,
Stuart

Hi
I would say it's a A7 on the blow notes (G is the 7th) and a E7 on the draw (D is the 7th). (I have seen Lee Oskar use similar tuning)
Yes, then the chord would be useful with the rest of the harp conventional A
Regards
Frank

Hi Frank,
Thanks for that advice.
Your chords make a lot of sense.

Stuart
