Lucky 13 Retune to Paddy Solo

So... I have ended up with an extra Lucky 13 harp in D Solo... what to do with it...? Well, I like the idea of a retune of the bottom end to make one of Brendan's Paddy Solo tunings... however... The bottom end of a Lucky 13 already has, of course, those extra couple of notes. So, what might be the ...

Re: Lucky 13 Retune to A

Well... I wish I had got the knack... I had done a huge amount of practice and was still struggling not to over-thin reeds, break edges off them, push them about and fiddle so much the reed went dead, plus all kinds of other irritants. However, I have now got it. The knack came down to the three thi...

Re: Lucky 13 Retune to A

Aha. And another critical thing I have realised, apart from the proxxon wheels being much coarser, is that the direction of rotation of your tool matters… My dremel rotates clockwise. This means I have to polish the reeds with them facing away or risk catching an edge. This is not ideal. However, wi...

Re: Lucky 13 Retune to A

Right. That is useful. So that also implies try not to thin down the end at all? So just taking weight out of the mid section of the reed? Or do you take metal off right across the tip (i.e. the whole width of the blue and pink bits of the diagram). Sorry for the detailed questions but I've really s...

Re: Lucky 13 Retune to A

Yup, I am making a mountain out of a molehill for sure! And, having finally seen the tool you are using, I can see why. When you recommended these things before I thought you were using the conical shaped jobs not a honking great sanding disc. I think my sanding tools just aren't a fierce enough gri...

Lucky 13 Retune to A

Couple of questions: 1. I have measured the reed slots of the Blow and Draw plates on my G Lucky 13 which I am planning to retune into an A harp (why is their no Lucky 13 in A!!!!!). As the valves get in the way, I can't measure the draw plate quite as accurately, but it is within a few tenths of a ...

Lucky 13 Reed replacements

Hi All, retuning a G solo to A (@Brendan why oh why oh why is there not an A key in the Lucky 13 when it is so good for irish music!!) I have of course knackered the G5 tuning it up a tone. Where can I get replacements please? Anyone know? Or shall I just buy a powerbender in A and cannabalise it? A...

No. I mean as in, cents up or down for good thirds and fifths on the chords.

Slide Diatonic Compensation tuning

"Simple" question... tuning a Low D Chromatic to Brendan's Slide Diatonic system. What is the best way to compensate the various notes?
