Re: beginner harp for irish/folk

I'm sure there's a lot of you guys in this thread play harmonica and have significant experience with it. I've tried it once and liked it SO much, now I consider buying one for myself. I've seen some beginners options and have learnt some basics from these articles: https://wisepick.org/best-harmon...

Re: Seydel blowbend problem

I have a modified Seydel Session Steel with a blow bend in hole 2. The blow note is a 'b', and the draw is an 'a', so the bend is the same size as yours. There are no additional sounds or vibrations. The same harp has the same bend in hole 9, but two octaves higher, and that one works fine too. Mine...

Re: TuneMaster harmonica

Now it seems to have disappeared from the TuroHarp webpage. Anyone know what happened?

Re: Position/key/scale tables for Newton Fourkey tuning

I put together a little table over which modes are available in which positions: Key on a C harp | C G D A E B F# Db Ab Eb Bb F Position | 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th 11th 12th ---------------------|----------------------------------------------------------------- Standard Major | X X X...

Re: Position/key/scale tables for Newton Fourkey tuning

(Everything said in this post assumes a C harmonica.) Each Fourkey harp also has, in addition to the mentioned modes, one melodic minor scale, namely the minor parallel to the lowest of the 4 major keys. For example, a harp labelled in C has a harmonic Am scale: a c d f g a b c# e f# g# b has the sc...

Re: List of tunings with five holes per octave

The ones you mention are members of the class pentatonic tunings, discussed in this thread:

Re: A family of new modded-Richter tunings

It IS an interesting tuning, so I'm not surprised it's found again :) Something that hits me: Would it maybe be a good idea to make a FourKey half-valved? It IS boring to have important notes in the blow plate, but maybe some of the lack of expressiveness can be regained if valved bends become avail...

Re: A family of new modded-Richter tunings

The first tuning is, if I'm not mistaken, the Newton FourKey tuning, and there is a good case for the first. The main reason is that if you would ever need the missing notes you could bend to get them. I know the whole point is to not have to bend, but in a choice between on the one hand a lot of no...

Re: TuneMaster harmonica

Would you unscrew the coverplate of a harp and retune any reeds with a screwdriver on stage in the middle of a concert like seen in the video? Why not? :) And it's not about unscrew any coverplates, they just pop off. The full process seems to take less than half a minute. I've seen guitar players ...

Re: TuneMaster harmonica

This looks nice! But it only works on the blow reads, right? It's really hard to see in the video, and I get t he feeling he is hiding the bottom reed plate. Still cool though, there's a lot you can do by only changing the blow reeds! Some ideas for Richter (in C say): Switch back and forth between ...
