Reels

Is it just me or do reels just want to make you play faster? So far I’ve learned Crowley’s reel, and although I don’t claim to play anything very well yet, it seems to want to be played faster. Now I’ve added the Kerry reel into my playing and again I feel like the tune wants me to go faster! The Ke...

Memorization

Im interested to know how you started out memorizing songs at the beginning or even now for that manner. I imagine as u progress ur able to play by ear, but as I play now I find myself memorizing the tablature, listening to it played a lot and then slowly I begin adding some groove or rhythm. Don’t ...

Re: Lucky 13 & Embossing.

Thanks Triona but i've run into a problem with brand new 'Unlucky 13' I bought a G the lowest key. Had it about a week maybe and was playing it tonight. Vamping away Sonny terry style on the low end and suddenly i noticed it sounded weird like it had went crazily out of tune or something or that on...

Re: Irish music book cover??

Okay I thought I would give a report on our Christmas song! My first time playing in front of anybody! I think I reported earlier that the song was to be “Christmas in Killarney”. We started off together okay, with my uncle on guitar and me on harmonica. Then my aunt began to clap!!!! Oh noooo that ...

Re: Irish music book cover??

I’ve been working out of it for several months now, but I always thought of it as my book of drills such as exercises. In my mind that’s the message I assumed u we’re sending.

Irish music book cover??

Brendan Today my uncle came over to practice as we will be playing our Christmas song together (first time ever!) and as I was showing him your book and singing your praises of course he noticed the drill bits coming out of the harmonica. I of course had no answer for him, so we’re curious now why a...

Re: beginner harp for irish/folk

I have nothing but good things to say about my lucky! I was upset when the reed stopped but it will be up and going again soon I hope. The sleydel session steel I’m using now is also very nice I think, just a big difference in feel since I started with the long 13 hole harp.

Re: beginner harp for irish/folk

Thank you for replying and providing info. Bad news,,, the 6 blow reed is in fact broke, but the good news,,,, the gentleman you referred me to has put me into contact with someone who does have parts and is certified to fix my poor harp. However in the meantime I have purchased a sleydel in the pad...

Re: beginner harp for irish/folk

It appears that maybe I have more than a cleaning problem. It actually looks as if my 6 blow reed may be “dead” somehow. I first noticed the note was getting breathy and felt heavy to blow then shortly became mostly silent. After disassembly there was no visible damage or appearance from other reeds...

Re: beginner harp for irish/folk

I never imagined I created so much spit! Another question from a new player,,,, how do I control or limit all the spit! If anyone has tips or techniques it would be greatly appreciated. Also, I believe I’m starting to have cleaning problems. What would be the proper cleaning method and frequency of ...
