Serendipity in Action: Inverted-Solo Tuning

I inadvertently created an interesting new tuning nearly 30 years ago, without realising it until quite recently. In the late 1980s I started retuning chromatics to make what I call Slide-Diatonics. These were primarily for Irish music, where I was playing in the home key and related modes of the ch...

Re: comb versus other tunings than C

My Universal PowerComb for the Hohner wood-comb chromatics will fit all keys, so no worries. Info here: http://www.brendan-power.com/combs-hohner.php#12 Ordering for lipped chromatic PowerCombs is suspended at he moment while we research new methods/materials for adding the lip. In the emantime I re...

Re: Unibender

Thanks for your sympathetic comments, Lizzy and Triona. The good thing is I have a bit of a deadline coming up for this and a couple of other designs that I need to finish patent papers for in early April, so that will help concentrate the mind :-)

Re: Power Chromatic

I'm in the process of getting some samples made by Easttop of PowerChromatic tuning on the Lucky 13. Just a couple of keys. I've made some myself, and finding it great for Bluegrass and Ragtime tunes where you want the easy chromaticism with a funkier diatonic tone. Here's a test demo of playing Luc...

Re: Unibender

Apologies - this delay in releasing the UniBender is getting embarrassing for me, and annoying for you! The current hold-up is finishing the patent documents. The valve principle inside the UniBender could apply to a wide range of harmonicas and I want to protect it before release. I've done the mai...

Re: Asiabend

Thanks for the query. It's not something I've considered up till now, but it could be a good idea - as the AsiaBend is certainly quite different to anything else out there! To do it digitally would require some specialist Tab software, or an adaptation of existing software. I'll look into it. In the...

Re: The MiniChrom / SwitchHarp is Released

One other possibility, a bit over the top maybe: There is a doubled C in hole 3 with draw slide-in. You could detune it to A#, detune the current blow 3 slide-in A# to G#, and detune the current hole 2 slide-in G# to F#. However it would alter the slider pattern in those holes, and you'd lose a bend...

Re: The MiniChrom / SwitchHarp is Released

Glad you're liking your version too Crawford :-) David: ah, you mean the F# on a C harp. In Richter you would have two G# slide notes and could conceivably tune one down to F#, but it has to be a bend in Melody Maker tuning. However as you say you can get the F# as a shallow bend slide-out or a deep...
