Re: Lydian Tuning

Hey, thanks! I will soon share some data about Phrygian, Mixolydian and Dorian tuning. I skipped Locrian.

Lydian Tuning

Hi, In my quest for modal harmonica tuning, I recently retuned a harp for lydian mode. It's quite similar to Melody Maker, but without the "paddy richter transformation" on blow 3. Instead, I lower draw 2 to -1 semitone. To sum things up: My tuning is double country tuning with draw 2 -1 semitone. (...

Re: First position aeolian natural minor custom tuning.

Here's a video of me playing a canadian folk song with that custom tuned harmonica. You can see than I can easily play minor on the highest octave as well.

Re: Introduce yourself

Hi everyone, I'm a novice harmonica player. I started playing seriously only two months ago and I fell in love with this instrument (I used to play as a kid with a toy harmonica but I guess that doesn't count). I have great interest for exotic harmonica tuning. I am a software developper and I have ...

Re: First position aeolian natural minor custom tuning.

Yes, several custom tunings can be created by combining the blow plate of a custom tuning and the draw plate of another one. Before tuning my harps, I tried to find one but I only found matches for the blow plate. I found no lee oskar draw plate that fits my custom tuning. For creating an Straight H...

Re: First position aeolian natural minor custom tuning.

I retunined a major diatonic richter to Paddy Richter (it was harder for me to raise the pitch than lowering the pitch). I tried it and played with it. It is very similar to Melody Maker. Melody Maker seems to be a Lydian and Dorian Paddy Richter while Paddy richter is basically a Ionian and Aeolian...

Re: Double harmonic custom tuning.

Thank you for your feedback! Yes, that would make sense. It would be something similar to the transformation applied to convert to paddy richter, but on 2 draw instead of 3 blow.

Re: Double harmonic custom tuning.

Yes, exactly 5 draw reeds. I might post a video showing what that kind of tuning can do.

Double harmonic custom tuning.

I recently retuned a Richter major harmonica to double harmonic scale. With that kind of tuning, I get a very exotic middle eastern sound somehow similar to Lee Oskar Minor Harmonic, but with more bright major-ish chords. With that kind of tuning, I can easily play Misirlou (theme from Pulp Fiction,...
