Re: The SlipSlider - a Revolutionary Blues Harp.

Bit of a delay with releasing the other brand SlipSliders, had a gig in London that took quite a bit of time in rehearsals and travel etc. Note to self: don't make promises on release dates, life tends to get in the way. But we'll get there in time...

Re: The SlipSlider - a Revolutionary Blues Harp.

Good point - no, we'll have to make a longer jig for the Seydel SlipSlider.

Re: The SlipSlider - a Revolutionary Blues Harp.

For harmonica customisers and players who like to work on their own harps, here's a video showing the 'from scratch' raw parts SlipSlider option: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_a81R3p1DXs&t=10s It goes with a second video showing how to assemble the finished parts to the harp. It plus pics of the ...

Re: The SlipSlider - a Revolutionary Blues Harp.

Yes, I'm in SlipSlider zone at present! Hope to get all the variations and different brands/models out this week, then I can move on to other designs/ideas.

Re: Turkish Tunes

Some friends in Istanbul played me a couple of YouTube videos by an older Turkish chromatic harmonica player, whose name escapes me. Will come back to you when I can track him down.

He played reversed slide style I think, like many Indian chrom players.

Re: Unibender

I ordered some mini duckbill valves to give them a go. Haven't tried them in situ but my feeling is that their opening pressure is too high.

Re: The SlipSlider - a Revolutionary Blues Harp.

The harmonica tuning is what determines the comb shape in my approach. PowerBender reedplates will not work on a Richter SlipSlider. They will physically fit, but you wouldn't get the desired new bends. For Circular Tuning the comb shape would be different again. Other approaches to the sliding reed...

Re: The SlipSlider - a Revolutionary Blues Harp.

Thanks for the interesting comments/suggestions Crawford and Lizzy. There are various ways you can design a sliding reedplate harmonica, and they have unique tuning outcomes. Zombor's original prototype had a 7.5mm travel on the drawplate and a simple upper comb. That gives its own new bends. Anothe...

Re: The SlipSlider - a Revolutionary Blues Harp.

Yesterday I got the Seydel and Easttop versions of the SlipSlider working. Seydel is the quirkiest because it has wider hole spacing than other harps, and less space at each end of the comb to place the magnets. To fit them you have to do some extra work on the reedplates and covers, making the atta...

Re: The SlipSlider - a Revolutionary Blues Harp.

Another discovery with the SlipSlider... When the drawplate is shifted to the left, you get a 4-hole tongue block octave all the way up the harp, on blow and draw! Plus, the draw note is always higher than the blow in the octave block. This makes octaves super easy to do throughout the range. Just m...
