High D diatonic chrom?

Hi, first post here.

I love playing many songs from New Irish Harmonica-I've re-tuned a few harps for that.

I want a slide diatonic in high D as featured in "Drunken Landlady" and others. I know you can configure reedplates from Seydel/Hohner now, but not back then when he made those recordings.

Question for Brendan or anyone who knows-how did you get that instrument?

I am afraid to change a C chrom all the way up to D diatonic. Should I just go for it? How did you do it?

Thanks!

Jon

Hi man
I asked myself the same question! And I thinks and that's what I making just right now...
It s not a high slide diatonic in D
I think it s a Paddy richter slide diatonic ten hole!
It s discontinued but you can make one yourself with 2 harps and one switch harp system!
But we will wait Brendan's answer to be sure!
Mathys 👌😉

Thanks Jimbo!

What you're doing sounds interesting albeit above my pay grade. I'm used to regular choms and diatonics. I have made a couple of paddy richter diatonics (involves changing one note only). And I've turned chroms into diatonic (raising any sharp notes by a half-step) which is easy.

Given that the highest (and standard) key is C, making a high D chrom involves changing all reeds, and many as much as a minor 3rd. I'm afraid of doing that and wondering if anyone here has done that before I try that.

BTW diatonics are made in high G, so there are reeds up there and beyond. But no chromatics in production higher than C.

So just curious how Brendan in New Irish Harmonica made a diatonic chromatic in high D. If he turned a standard into that then I will try that.

Thanks,

Jon

Exactly the same question! Maybe I don't Know if the hohner cx 12 in D isn't naturally a high D?
It will solve everything

I do have a CX 12 in D.

It is low (a step above the tenor C chromatic).

I have written a long post to answer and discuss this. But the system does not accept its upload. It shows constantly an "error 403" instead. Sorry.

edit:
Problem solved now. Seems to be a limit to the length of posts. Now I have cut the post in three parts following downside.

Is your CX-12 an original Hohner?
Or is it one of Brendan's discontinued customized CX-12?
That might make a difference maybe.
