The opening track from my first 'proper' album, recorded in Auckland New Zealand with many of the finest musicians playing at that time. I borrowed some money from my Dad to help pay for it, but a lot was based on the goodwill and great fellow feeling of the Auckland musos, all of us part of a thriving live scene in the city and a kind of family. The funky electric guitar on this track is played by my then girlfriend Lynne Campbell, who helped me finish the composition of the tune with her awesome rhythm groove. Recording 'State of the Harp' with drummer/producer Steve Garden was a really intense, happy process - thanks Steve, and all the great players on the album.
